I am not a tuxman, but I have appreciated really the apt-get tool in Ubunto which allowed me to download and install any tool from the APT (Advanced Packaging Tool) store without configuring dependencies or other related installation problems. Other interesting tools also exist like RPM (Red Hat distribution), Yum (Yellow Dog), etc.

In the Mac OS world, if you want to install UNIX applications, you can use MacPorts Line command tool. Nowadays, there are more than 7600 ports (applications). I have discovered this great project when I had to install ettercap tool.

to install ettercap tool for example, you have just to execute the following steps:

  1. synchronise your installation with the macports store : “$ sudo port selfupdate”
  2. install the ettercap tool : “$ sudo port install ettercap-ng”

MonoDroid

After a successful MonoTouch (A .NET IDE to develop IPhone Applications based on C# Language), Miguel De Icaza and his wonderful Team has developed another IDE for the Android applications.

Mono for Android has bound Android Dalvik API  to C# in such way that the VM can be brought into Android which supports also JIT.

As MonoTouch, MonoDroid will be commercial. But, developers can take the opportunity of the Beta version here http://monodroid.net/

For OSX developers, this link is so interesting : http://monodroid.net/Installation_for_Mac.

SharpDevelop 4.0 is available

Yesterday, I have remembered the SharpDevelop IDE, because I discussed with a friend about Open Source and Microsoft technologies. This IDE is very excellent and offered in its first version some new functionalities.

Incredibly, the SharepDevelop guys have succeeded to develop their last version supporting .NET 4.0.

The RC of SharepDevelop is available since 28 november just here .

I advice you to use it and … surprise … this IDE is Open Source and you can freely download the code.

Long Live to Open Source !
