Forefront family will die soon!

A very big surprise is announced from this official blog; Microsoft will discontinue a number of its Forefront products:

  • Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server (FPE)
  • Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint (FPSP)
  • Forefront Security for Office Communications Server (FSOCS)
  • Forefront Threat Management Gateway 2010 (TMG)
  • Forefront Threat Management Gateway Web Protection Services (TMG WPS)

This decision is so logical if we notice that the security is integrated in the different MS products:

  1. Exchange will finally integrate some antimalware functionalities.
  2. SharePoint and Lync will support integrated security.
  3. DirectAccess, Routing and Remote Access Server VPN in Windows Server 2012 provide secure remote access for the customers ( I will discover the new functionalities inchaEllah)
  4. EndPoint Protection is finally integrated in SCCM 2012.

However UAG and IAG are excluded from this decision.

I forgot to mention that the concerned products will no longer be available for purchase as of December 1, 2012.
